About Climate Cafe GNV

Climate Cafe GNV is a community-based nonprofit helping people navigate the emotional and social dimensions of climate change.

Climate change affects our communities, relationships, and sense of the future. In a time of increasing uncertainty and isolation, people need opportunities to connect with one another, share their experiences, and discover meaningful ways to contribute to their communities.

Through climate cafes, arts and cultural programming, community gatherings, educational events, and opportunities for civic engagement, we help people build resilience, strengthen relationships, and move from concern toward connection and purpose.

The Problem

As Florida experiences stronger hurricanes, rising temperatures, and prolonged droughts, many people are carrying questions and concerns that often go unspoken. In Alachua County, 66% of residents are worried about global warming. That's more than 154,000 of our neighbors who are carrying the emotional weight of climate-related disruptions.

Yet many people struggle to find places where they can talk honestly about these experiences. Time and again, we hear locals wonder whether anyone else around them is paying attention or cares as deeply as they do. We believe no one should have to carry those feelings alone.

How We Work

Our work combines four interconnected areas:

  1. Connection & Reflection: Climate cafes and facilitated conversations create space for honest dialogue and mutual support.

  2. Arts & Culture: Storytelling, music, film, and creative expression help us process experiences and imagine paths forward.

  3. Community & Learning: Educational events, discussions, and partnerships strengthen relationships, encourage curiosity and understanding, and build skills and resources to scaffold our communities against intensifying climate threats.

  4. Civic Engagement: We connect residents with local organizations and opportunities that reduce unhealthy pollution and scaffold our communities against intensifying climate threats.

Our Vision

We envision communities where people face climate change not alone, but together. As our work grows, we hope to expand access to climate resilience programming regionally; support youth, older adults, and Spanish-speaking communities; increase training opportunities for educators and mental health professionals; and partner with diverse communities to ensure this work is inclusive, culturally responsive, and locally grounded.
